In 2011, 13-15-year-olds Elizabeth, Virginia, Betsaida and their friends from Emiliano Zapata Middle School, Temascaltepec, realised thye had to do something about the dismal fact that their school had no civic square to conduct march pasts and hoist the national flag. They created a new civic square by gathering support from the community and media. After its completion, the entire community united for the first time in this space.
