In 2014, students at Panchayat Union Middle School, Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, were disturbed that 70% of deaths in the last 5 years in their Kalachery (West) region had occured due to suicide. To address this issue, they conducted awareness-street plays and lent counselling to the village people, training them in basket weaving skills and preaching to them using holy texts.
